Torridon Mountains with Dave Tolcher
Come with us into the rugged Land & Forrest that surrounds the Torridon mountains.
Where Dave Tolcher is often seen, getting away from life down south
Joins us on Sunday 3rd November, meeting near location in Torridon
With beautiful fore shores, Lochside views and mountainscapes, the Torridon Mountain range has everything that a Landscape photographer
desires, as always, the weather plays big part in all of this and can really change the mood of the image, rain and clouds can add a dramatic effect
to your images, just like a burst of sunlight or some snow on the tops, so it's best to be prepared for any weather.
Well its Scotland after all ........ you're not here for a sun tan.
Workshop Leader: Dave Tolcher
I've been a landscape and wildlife photographer for nearly 50 years, with extensive experience in both film and digital photography.
My work spans everything from 10x8 film to digital formats, using both mirrorless and technical cameras.
My landscape work in recent years has been largely project based with repeated visits to a location building a deep understanding and connection with the cycles of the land, weather and tides if coastal.
I have a love of the weather in all its forms and this is a significant part of what excites me artistically.
If I had to define my photographic style then my ambition is to capture the quiet light, the introspective beauty of natural landscapes with a strong focus on mood, texture, and compositional harmony.
One of the areas I have been working in extensively is a part of Torridon where over the last 10 years I have stayed annually in Autumn and/or Winter.
Autumn is a beautiful time when you can get all seasons in one day with snow fall on the mountains through to Tee shirt weather with remarkable colours
in the birch trees in particular.
The grasses and bracken are at their beautiful best before being trashed by the Winter snows.
Showers running up Loch Torridon are a feature of this time of year leading to spectacular conditions.
I have published work in physical (Outdoor Photography) and digital magazines (On Landscape) and galleries including the prestigious Joe Cornish gallery
where I had a significant portfolio prior to Covid.
I worked with Nidderdale AONB providing them with publicity and marketing material over several years.
I have a steady flow of print and card sales with a calendar produced for several years.
I am excited to share my knowledge of this area of Torridon, my technical expertise and approach to photography in making a great day out.
