Released in 1979, the 300mm F5.6 FD was the cheapest and one of the lightest 300mm lenses released as part of the 'New FD' (FDn) lens range from Canon.

With its moderate F5.6 speed it features a narrower lens barrel than other 300mm lenses and also offers a Rear-group focusing system which makes focusing smooth and light.
